Payroll Specialist

Location: Dayton-OH

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist that will ensure accurate processing and recording of company’s payroll, provide timely and accurate payroll information, and participate in daily data entry of Accounts Payable. The successful candidate must possess the following qualities: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills for a demanding and customer focused environment; A minimum of an Associate’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration or a minimum of 5 years’ of proven payroll experience; Good organizational, analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills in addition to the ability to work closely with all levels of the organization; Exceptional experience in MS Excel, Access and Data Entry within a business environment; Working knowledge of accounting software systems, JD Edwards or ER software; Experience with an HRIS system, Ultimate Software a plus; and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Process weekly payroll for approximately 450 hourly employees from time card reconciliation through payment (to employees and state agencies) and recording to the general ledger.
  • Input / Maintain / Reconcile employee data within the HRIS system.
  • Understand proper taxation of employer paid benefits and FMLA regulations.
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting (W-2, 1099, etc.).
  • Develop ad hoc payroll and operational reporting.
  • Reconciliation between payroll and general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with accounts payable transaction processing (P.O. vouchering, check and ACH payments, etc.)
  • Perform other assigned tasks and duties as necessary to support the Accounting Department.

High Speed Precision Machinist

Location: Dayton-OH

We are seeking an experienced precision high speed surface grinder machinist. The successful candidate must possess the following qualities: Perform set-up and operation of all grinding capabilities to various tool steels, including but not limited to: flat grinding, complex intricate shape grinding, and low speed and high speed in a production environment; Must be able to work to close tolerances in the range of .0001" - .0002"; Ability to achieve fine finishes is a plus; Mechanically inclined and have experience reading blueprints along with moderate math (Geometry) skills; and be available to work 2nd shift (3:30pm - 12:00am).

CNC EDM Sink (AC) Machinist

Location: Dayton-OH

Dayton Progress is the leading international manufacturer of tools and tooling components for the metal stamping and plastic molding industries. We have immediate openings for CNC EDM Operators. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of five years’ experience in setup and operating CNC sinkers; must be capable of running multiple machines and holding tight tolerance and fine finishes; must have the ability to perform own measurements to verify results; Makino and Charmilles experience is a plus; must have a HS Diploma/GED, and pass a drug test. Expectations include troubleshooting problems such as DC Arching, Electrode buildup and pitting, and take corrective action with little or no assistance.

2nd Shift available: 3PM – 11PM
Training will be on 1st shift: 7AM – 3PM

Must be available to work weekends and overtime if required.

Buyer - Purchasing

Location: Dayton-OH

Job Purpose

Support manufacturing and other operations at the Dayton Progress facility through Purchasing activities related to buying commodities and other necessary items.

Job Description

Employee in this position will perform all activities necessary to purchase all items needed within the facility. This includes researching suitable alternatives, comparing price, quality, lead time, negotiating optimal terms, preparing and processing purchase orders, and following up to be sure that terms are met (quality, quantity, price, on-time delivery, function, etc.). This employee will also interact with members of the Manufacturing, Engineering, Maintenance, Accounting, other departments, as well as employees in the shop as needed.

Reports to: Purchasing Manager

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the lowest possible price and in the correct amounts, including raw material (steel).
  2. Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals, and review requisitions for goods and services.
  3. Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.
  4. Analyze price proposals, and other data and information to determine reasonable prices.
  5. Negotiate, or renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
  6. Act as point of contact for suppliers and customers (in-house); maintain high level of responsiveness.
  7. Work with Accounting on any invoice issues regarding product receipt and pricing discrepancies.
  8. Monitor shipments to ensure that goods come in on time, and in the event of problems trace shipments and follow up undelivered goods.
  9. Interact with staff, users, and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action.
  10. Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and to determine need for changes
  11. Maintain and review computerized or manual records of items purchased, costs, delivery, product performance, and inventories.
  12. Review inventory levels of current stock to develop strategic purchasing programs that facilitate employee access to supplies.
  13. Interview vendors and visit suppliers' plants and distribution centers to examine and learn about products, services and prices.

Other Job Skills

  1. Must demonstrate an enthusiastic, hands-on approach to activities along with a clear sense of urgency.
  2. Experience in JDE or other ERP software.
  3. Ability to organize and prioritize work to in order to meet expectations and deadlines.
  4. Ability to work with minimum supervision; act as a self-starter.
  5. Above average computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point) and mainframe-based software (ERP).
  6. Ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures.
  7. Knowledge of steel types and coatings along with experience in multi-source procurement.
  8. Knowledge of shipping, both domestic and international.
  9. Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with superiors, peers, subordinates, and suppliers.
  10. Ability to understand and interpret blueprints, sketches, or other descriptions of parts to be fabricated or otherwise purchased.
  11. Some knowledge of precision machining operations, tools, and related tooling a plus.


Must have at least 3-5 years of experience in Purchasing of materials, equipment, supplies, and purchase/re-sale items as well as development and review of contracts in a manufacturing setting. APICS and/or American Purchasing Society (CPP) certification preferred. Must be a driven, highly-motivated individual demonstrating attention to detail along with strong negotiating skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills is a must; includes reporting, email, meetings, etc.


Bachelor's Degree preferred; Associates Degree minimum with 3-5 years' experience in Purchasing in a manufacturing setting.
