Leading international manufacturer of tools and tooling components for the metal stamping and plastic molding industries has an opening for a degreed Manufacturing Engineer.

Job Purpose: This position will be responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, and improving manufacturing processes in a machining environment.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Provide technical support to ongoing production operations at the Dayton, Ohio plant.
  • Lead projects to design and improve machining processes for all product lines on new and existing equipment. Manufacturing processes include conventional and CNC turning, milling, drilling, grinding, and EDM.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing and other Continuous Improvement concepts, including 5S, Standard Work, and SMED to eliminate waste and reduce product cost.
  • Prepare capital expenditure requests, including financial justification and presentation to management.
  • Implement capital equipment and facilities projects within budget and time constraints, including development of detailed project plans and schedules as well as designs for equipment layout, product workflow, utilization of workspace maximizing results for Quality, Cost, and Time.
  • Design and coordinate fabrication of fixturing, gaging, and tooling for new and existing processes.
  • Direct and/or oversee all assigned projects and other activities, taking an enthusiastic, hands-on role to planning, execution, and follow-up.
  • Analyze and process Engineering Change Requests / Notifications.
  • Work with global company locations to share and adopt best-practice processes and methods, including transfer of turnkey processes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or machining environment (including co-op or internship experience). Direct experience with CNC machining equipment. CNC machine programming experience is a plus.
  • Experience in AutoCad, Siemens NX, or similar CAD/CAM application is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must demonstrate enthusiasm, passion, and a sense of urgency along with strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Experience with Kaizen and other Continuous Improvement techniques is a plus.

Responsibilities:
• Ability to perform simple machining tasks while progressing to more advance level machining
• Use precise measuring tools to ensure exact specifications
• Read and interpret blueprints to determine machining requirements
• Inspect finished products for quality and adherence to specifications
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with machining tools and equipment
• Ability to work overtime when required, including weekends
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow all safety procedures and protocols

Skills/Qualifications:
• Moderate math skills, including geometry
• Accurately perform mathematical calculations
• Mechanically inclined
• Ability to read blueprints

• Manual dexterity required

 

Experience/Education:
• High School diploma or GED
• Background in a manufacturing environment a plus, but not required

Position Overview:

We are looking for a hands-on Quality Technician with robust Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) experience who is ready to take the next step in their career by leading quality initiatives and supporting the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within the department. Whether you hold a formal degree or have equivalent experience, your ability to analyze, measure, and ensure quality standards will make you a vital part of our team.

 

Key Responsibilities:
• Operate and program CMM equipment to measure parts with precision and accuracy.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and analyze production components to ensure adherence to specifications.
• Support development, implementation, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and quality throughout the department.
• Lead and mentor the quality team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
• Maintain On-Time Delivery (OTD) by ensuring quality processes support production timelines.
• Collaborate with process engineering, production, and other departments to address quality-related challenges and improve processes.
• Perform root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for quality issues, as needed.
• Maintain detailed records of quality inspections and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Ensure tools and measurement equipment are calibrated and in optimal condition.
• Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality standards, efficiency, and departmental performance.

• Conduct training sessions for staff on CMM operation, quality standards, and adherence to SOPs to ensure consistent quality practices.

 

Qualifications:
• CMM experience is a must, including programming, operation, and troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an eye for detail.
• Experience in quality systems, tools, and methodologies such as ISO standards, Six Sigma, or similar.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a leadership mindset.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments to drive quality improvements.

• A degree in a related field is a plus but not required—relevant work experience will be highly valued.

 

Preferred Skills:
• Proficiency in quality-related software and systems.
• Familiarity with precision manufacturing processes and tools.

• Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
