Director of Engineering

DAYTON LAMINA™ is the world-wide industry leader in the production of catalog and special punches, die components, die details, punch blanks and metalstamping tools with factories in the U.S. (OH, IN, MI, WI), Canada, Mexico, Portugal, Czech Republic, Japan and China (majority-owned joint ventures). Our full line of tooling includes everything in your bill of materials, punches, die buttons, pins & bushings, wear and guide components, die springs, cams, die details, punch retainers and more.

We are looking for a Director of Engineering. The successful candidate must possess the following qualities: Must have at least ten years of strong proven managerial experience in manufacturing operations and Engineering and a BS in Engineering, or equivalent experience. Strong verbal communication and computer skills also required. Job is located in Dayton, Ohio.

Job purpose

Provide managerial leadership and direction to the Engineering, MPS, Maintenance and CAM programming departments, in accordance with the agreed business plan.

Responsibilities

  • Support Manufacturing needs for technical direction as it relates to processes, methods and technology through your team of experts to create the best in class manufacturing for QCT.
  • Provide expert technical direction to the Engineering, MPS, Maintenance and CAM programming departments to optimize the total manufacturing process from OE to shipping.
  • When implementing new equipment and technology, develop a fully engineered process with consideration of all aspects of the methods to be used to maximize QCT.
  • Adopt and implement Best Practices from Dayton Lamina and Suruga facilities for like operations to ensure standardization and maximize the corporate investment in new manufacturing methods.
  • Drive the Digital Manufacturing through the implementation of 3D2M for Specials in order to continually improve QCT while reducing dependency on operator skill.
  • Lead the implementation of new products to be produced within manufacturing that require new processes and methods with particular focus on Factory Automation requirements.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a world class Total Productive Maintenance program while ensuring the latest maintenance techniques are implemented in the operations and facilities.
  • Maintain and develop a systematic process of managing and controlling projects to meet performance targets and completion dates.
  • Develop and execute the annual budget for your departments.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a planned rebuilding schedule for critical equipment and processes within the operation.
  • Support Engineering, MPS and Maintenance requirements of other Dayton Lamina operations and be a major driver on standardization of like processes across the company.
  • Decrease the Total Maintenance costs on an annual basis through TPM and investments.
  • Develop and implement an energy policy and goals to reduce energy consumption per unit on an annual basis.
  • Champion the suggestion committee and the implementation of the suggestions adopted as it relates to your departments.

High Speed Precision Machinist

We are seeking an experienced precision high speed surface grinder machinist. The successful candidate must possess the following qualities: Perform set-up and operation of all grinding capabilities to various tool steels, including but not limited to: flat grinding, complex intricate shape grinding, and low speed and high speed in a production environment; Must be able to work to close tolerances in the range of .0001" - .0002"; Ability to achieve fine finishes is a plus; Mechanically inclined and have experience reading blueprints along with moderate math (Geometry) skills; and be available to work 2nd shift (3:30pm - 12:00am).

Manufacturing Engineer

Leading international manufacturer of tools and tooling components for the metal stamping and plastic molding industries has an opening for a degreed Manufacturing Engineer.  Experience in a Tool & Die environment, developing and implementing new processes and equipment, AutoCad and Unigraphics, and application experience for turning and grinding is a plus.

Candidates must have a four year BS degree in Mechanical, Industrial or similar field of Engineering. Must have strong verbal communication and computer skills. Experience with Kaizen Implementations and other Continuous Improvement techniques a plus. Position reports to the Director of Engineering & Manufacturing Support.
