Production Manager

Location: Bellaire-MI

This position is expected to ensure the manufacturing department operates at peak efficiency in tandem with customer demands and within organizational constraints. The Production Manager coordinates the manufacturing activities including planning and scheduling with adequate staffing to sustain high productivity level and operator participation.

Essential Job Functions

  • Strategic management of operations and direct labor optimization
  • Facilitates daily communication plans between operations and support groups
  • Sets operational goals to meet SQTC (Safety, Quality, Time, Cost) targets in alignment with organizational KPIs
  • Develops supervisory staff
  • Leads operational efforts for continuous improvement
  • Monitors Production performance ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Analyzes productivity data trends and introduces effective countermeasures

Qualifications: Education, Knowledge, Training & Work Experience

  • Applicable Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent extensive work experience
  • Results driven candidate with the ability to be held accountable for P&L functions
  • 5 to 10 years in a manufacturing environment, preferably in metal machining
  • Exceptional communication skills with demonstrated honesty and integrity
  • 3 to 5 years of leadership experience managing direct labor
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Lean manufacturing experience desired
  • Understanding of MRP systems functionality

Environment

Work time will be spent in a standard office environment with manufacturing plant exposure. Temperature and noise may vary depending on external environmental conditions. Lack of attention and carelessness may result in personal injury to self or others. Personal protective equipment is required on the production floor.

Inventory Specialist

Location: Dayton-OH

Job Purpose

The Inventory Specialist will work as part of the Production and Inventory Control team in support of manufacturing operations at the Dayton plant. He or she will work with the in-house manufacturing team and the purchasing team to ensure that the supply of raw materials and semi-finished goods is sufficient to meet customer demand for finished products. Nearly all customer orders are made-to-order and have relatively short lead-times, so inventory replenishment is based on forecasts and calculations. Therefore, the Inventory Specialist will work frequently with large data sets and will often be required to perform advanced data analysis using Microsoft Excel. He or she will also be expected to understand the relationships between the data and the overall business in order to efficiently investigate and address irregularities in the data and any questions raised by others in the company. The job will involve frequent interaction with many other people, although a majority of the daily work will be done at a computer using Excel and the company’s ERP software. A variety of other tasks may be assigned (including tasks unrelated to inventory management), depending on the aptitude and interests of the person hired for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory cycle counting
    • Work continuously with accounting department and stock room personnel to maintain an effective cycle-counting program
    • Investigate any major inventory variances and work with others to implement specific countermeasures to avoid similar variances in the future
    • Monitor and report on cycle count status throughout the year to ensure audit compliance; work with others to implement corrective actions if schedule falls behind
  • Inventory monitoring and replenishment
    • Review order recommendations within ERP software and generate production orders and purchase requisitions as necessary
    • Communicate with off-site and on-site suppliers about supply-related issues as necessary to maintain sufficient inventory to meet customer demand
    • Maintain accurate and complete data in ERP system to enable proper functioning of the software (item groupings, forecasts, safety stock levels, etc.)
  • Documentation
    • Produce and maintain reference materials and procedural documentation for the work activities of the Inventory Specialist to enable cross-training and backup within the team
    • Support stock room personnel and others in producing and maintaining procedural documentation for activities such as cycle counting and shelving newly-received items
  • Reporting
    • Create and/or maintain and distribute data-driven reports and dashboards as requested using advanced Microsoft Excel formulas, formatting, and graphs.
    • Use existing reporting add-on to ERP software to retrieve data as needed for reporting and performing daily duties
  • Off-site support
    • Provide Inventory Control support to other Dayton Lamina sites—Portland, Indiana, in particular; when possible, extend effective procedures from Dayton to Portland
    • Assist in data collection and consolidating reports from other Dayton Lamina sites
  • Other assignments as required

Preferred Qualifications and Characteristics

  • Prior professional experience managing inventory in a manufacturing environment
  • Very advanced Microsoft Excel skills and good math skills to support the use of Excel
  • Strong ability to analyze data and connect it to real-world business circumstances
  • Strong written communication skills (grammar, spelling, punctuation, communicating clearly)
  • Experience using proprietary reporting software like Crystal Reports, Cognos BI, or ReportsNow
  • Good independent time management habits; can independently prioritize work based on organizational goals; uses time at work effectively and productively; does not need hand-holding
  • Positive attitude toward working with others, even if they don’t always have positive attitudes
  • Positive attitude toward changes in processes and objectives; a desire to help changes succeed

Job Purpose

Candidate for this position will assist various Product Management projects. The candidate will collect and conduct quantitative data analysis of sales and product data & information, and translate the information to written text and graphics. Candidate will also visualize and measure team and project related Key Performance Indicators.

Safety Manager

Location: Dayton-OH

We are looking for a Safety Manager. The successful candidate must possess the following qualities:

Must have at least five or more years of progressive hands-on Safety Management experience in Occupational Safety and Health within an industrial manufacturing facility; Must be a driven, highly-motivated individual with an attention to detail and have strong organizational skills; Strong written and verbal communication skills is a must along with proficiency in Microsoft Office; and possess the ability to work effectively alone and prioritize projects is essential. The position will require 10-15% travel. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety or equivalent preferred. Safety certifications such as CSP, PHST, and CMSP are considered a strong asset. Job is located in Dayton, Ohio.

Job purpose

Hands-on position providing leadership and direction in all Safety–related situations and subject matter for all Dayton Lamina companies.

Responsibilities

  • Must demonstrate an enthusiastic, hands-on approach to Safety improvement in all Dayton Lamina facilities with a sense of urgency. This includes developing relationships necessary to achieve rapid results as it relates to incident prevention and investigation. Also includes the ability to be a change agent, appropriately confronting unsafe situations and resolving them.
  • Must demonstrate the organizational and follow-up skills necessary to achieve effective results in multiple facilities, achieving completion on all past corrective actions and plans for future improvements.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to develop and implement programs and activities necessary to prevent injuries. This includes development and implementation of required training.
  • Act as liaison with medical providers in worker's compensation claims management to ensure timely employee return-to-work under provisions of Company's RTW policy.
  • Knowledge of worker's comp claims management a must.
  • Act as the lead investigator for each and every accident/incident and near miss situations that occurs at Ohio and Portland facilities. Working with on-site Safety Coordinators when accidents occur at their facilities where applicable. For all incidents (Near Misses and Recordable Injuries), works with the management team to conduct Root Cause Analysis, develop counter-measures, and follows up to ensure that all counter-measures are implemented and all required training is completed. Also responsible for required communication related to incidents.
  • Collaborate and supports Human Resources functions.
  • Creates and supports a culture of Safety partnerships with all employees; regardless of level.
  • Plans for and facilitates Weekly Safety Meetings; oversees completion of Safety-related projects.
  • Provides daily Safety Topics for management.
  • Conducts Safety audits and analysis and reports on any concerns.
  • Conducts Safety presentations to management and employees.
  • Conducts and coordinates Safety Audit Program.
  • Coordinates, and where applicable, executes all required Annual Safety Training and Safety-related certifications. This includes work with HR in implementing tracking program and maintenance of all related records.
  • Coordinates and facilitates Monthly Safety Webinars with executives and safety personnel at all locations.
  • Coordinate OSHA 300 log compliance.
  • Provides Safety-related articles and information to Company publications.
  • Performs additional assignments as directed by Managers.

High Speed Precision Machinist

We are seeking an experienced precision high speed surface grinder machinist. Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Dayton-OH

Leading international manufacturer of tools and tooling components for the metal stamping and plastic molding industries has an opening for a degreed Manufacturing Engineer. This position will be responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, and improving manufacturing processes in a machining environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare capital expenditure requests, including financial justification and presentation to management
  • Implement capital equipment and facilities projects within budget and time constraints, including development of detailed project plans and schedules
  • Work with suppliers and internal resources to design and improve machining processes, both for existing product lines and for new product introductions
  • Design and coordinate fabrication of fixturing, gaging, and tooling for new and existing processes
  • Work with global company locations to share and adopt best-practice processes and methods, including transfer of turn-key processes
  • Provide technical support to ongoing production operations at Dayton, Ohio plant, as well as at other company locations as needed (processes include conventional and CNC turning, milling, drilling, grinding, and EDM)
  • Utilize lean manufacturing and continuous improvement concepts, including 5S, Standardized Work, and SMED to eliminate waste and reduce product cost
  • Direct and/or oversee cost reduction and product/process improvement projects as assigned
  • Analyze and process Engineering Change Requests / Notifications and employee suggestions
  • Take a hands-on approach to fulfilling job responsibilities – must be willing to problem solve in a production environment

Qualifications and Experience

  • B.S. Engineering degree in Mechanical, Industrial or similar discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in a machining environment, including direct experience leading implementation of new machinery
  • Direct experience with CNC machining equipment
  • AutoCAD, Siemens NX, or similar CAD/CAM experience is a required
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis is required
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally to Asia for extended periods (total travel <25%)
  • Japanese language skills are a plus
  • Experience with Kaizen and other Continuous Improvement techniques is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required
  • CNC machine programming experience is a plus
